Sharm El Sheikh — or just "Sharm" — sits at the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, where the two arms of the Red Sea (Aqaba and Suez gulfs) meet. It's one of the world's best dive sites: Ras Mohammed National Park is 30 minutes away, with legendary reefs like Tiran, Jackfish Alley, and Shark Reef.
For international visitors Sharm is 4 hours direct from European hubs, typically 10–15% more expensive than Hurghada — but the water quality and Sinai mountain scenery compensate.
The city has two main areas: Naama Bay to the north — the "old" Sharm with a lively pedestrian street, bars, restaurants. Nabq, Hadaba, Ras Um El Sid — newer resort zones with a calmer vibe.
From Sharm you can also visit Mount Sinai (Moses Mountain, with a dawn hike) and the Saint Catherine Monastery. Cairo is far (8h by car), so the Pyramids day-trip is easier from Hurghada.
