Best for: Families with small children, grandparents, non-swimmers, and anyone who has decided the sea is for looking at.
Not everyone wants to put their face in the water, and there is no reason that should cost you the reef. Two options leave from Hurghada Marina: a glass-bottom boat, where you stay on an open deck and look down through the hull, or a genuine submarine that takes you down to about 25 metres with the coral at eye level through the portholes. Both see the same reef system the snorkeling boats visit.

The glass-bottom boat, without hesitation. You stay on an open deck in fresh air and look down through the hull. The submarine is a sealed cabin for around an hour, and there is no stepping outside once it is down.
It is one of the few things here that works for a three-year-old and a grandparent on the same trip. Under-3s go free.
Realistically 30 to 50 fish species and a dozen or more kinds of coral. It is not the same as being in the water — nothing is — but it is the same reef, and the submarine gets you deeper than a snorkeler goes.
Plenty of guests do exactly that: the submarine early in the week to see what is down there, then the Giftun boat once the idea has grown on them.
